Waiting for the Light

I had been waiting

for the merry music, red velvet bows
for the sparkling trees, bulbs aglow
for light to return to the dismal earth

Waiting to find that for which I search
Waiting in quiet, darkness, time

time to slow down
darkness to rest
quiet to contemplate

Now solstice has come
Christmas draws near
A soft whiteness covers my world
Nowhere else to go
Nothing more to do

Welcome silence—
Welcome wonderland—
Welcome joy!
